Guidelines for Starting A New Business in Covington

Planning on starting or expanding your business in Covington? To help, the City has a streamlined process that makes opening your business as easy as one, two, three. To begin the process, follow these easy steps:

  1. Contact the City's Economic Development Department at 859-292-2163 for information on Business Development Incentives and potential locations for your business.
  2. Contact Dennis Uchtman in the City’s Code Enforcement Department at 859-292-2170 to make sure the location of the new business is zoned correctly. Obtaining a Zoning Permit is required for all signage and an application must be completed and submitted along with a $10.00 filing fee.
  3. After the Zoning Permit is approved, contact the City’s Finance Department at 859-292-2184 for an Occupational License. Complete and submit the Occupational License application along with a $30.00 filing fee.
