Commissioner Sherry Carran

Commissioner Carran was first elected to City Commission in 2006 and re-elected in 2008. She represents the City on the Kenton County Health Board and the NKY Area Planning Council. In June 2008, she was elected by fellow NKY Area Planning Council members to fill the remaining term of Lou Noll on the NKY Area Planning Commission. She also serves on the City's Housing, Neighborhood, Parks, and Community Development Committee and on the City's Service Delivery, Infrastructure Improvements and Maintenance Committee.

In addition to her responsibilities to the City, Commissioner Carran serves on the following: Northern Kentucky Urban & Community Forestry Council and represents the Forestry Council on the Brent Spence Bridge Replacement Project's Aesthetics Committee and on Southbank Partners' Riverfront Commons Committee; Banklick Watershed Council; Kenton Conservancy; Vision 2015's Parks & Greenspace Committee and sub-committee on the Licking River Greenway; NKY Sanitation District #1 Storm Water Citizens Advisory Committee; Green Umbrella; NKY Independent District Health Dept. Environmental Committee.

In April 2008, Commissioner Carran was recognized as one of the Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky and in August 2006, she received NKY Area Development District's Outstanding Volunteer Award.

Commissioner Shawn Masters

Commissioner Masters was elected to City Commission in the 2008 election. Masters has been a resident of Covington since 1997 and lives in the city's Westside neighborhood. A life-long Northern Kentuckian, Masters is also a finance/business graduate of the University of Kentucky (1993) and is co-owner of the Merlot Group, a Covington-based graphic design/marketing company, located in Covington's Arts district.

In addition to his official commission responsibilities, Masters serves on the following boards/committees: Telecommunications Board of Northern Kentucky and the River Cities Government Coalition of Southbank Partners. Additionally, Masters is a member of several local organizations  including: the Covington Business Council and the Latonia Business Association and various neighborhood and civic associations.

Commissioner Mildred Rains

Commissioner Rains was appointed to the City Commission in May 2009. Commissioner Rains is originally from Middlesboro, Kentucky and she has called Covington home since 1964. Commissioner Rains began her service to the city in 1974 when she became the first female housing inspector and held the position of Director of Code Enforcement upon her retirement in 2006. Commissioner Rains has invaluable experience and integrity and is ready to put her skills to work for the citizens of Covington.

Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Stricker

Commissioner Stricker has lived in Covington for over 25 years. He served as a City Commissioner in 2000 for nine months to fill a vacant seat. He was first elected to a full term in November 2004 and re-elected in November 2006 and November 2008. In January 2009, his fellow Commission members elected Stricker Mayor Pro Tem. Commissioner Stricker represents the City on the Northern Kentucky Area Development Board and Municipal League of Kenton County. Commissioner Stricker is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He is a CPA and a retired Executive Vice President/CFO of Gradison & Co., Inc.
